Does a larger chest value mean a better fit?

It only means that one measured dimension is larger under the stated method. Shoulder shape, armhole, length, material and intended layering remain separate questions.

Why might two sleeve measurements disagree?

The start may be a shoulder seam, a neck point or another landmark. Dropped shoulders can also change how a sleeve-only length relates to the whole arm. Read the diagram before subtracting.

Run a compatible measurement comparison

Choose the same method for both records and confirm that both describe a flat, fastened garment. Enter the original measurement and its unit. The form converts inches to centimetres before subtracting the reference value from the candidate value.

An optional bound describes a plus-or-minus range you are prepared to use for that measurement. It is not a confidence level or a tolerance supplied by this site. When either bound is unknown, the form still displays the point difference but leaves the uncertainty range unavailable.

A positive difference means the candidate dimension is greater; a negative difference means it is smaller. The output concerns only the selected dimension. Do not interpret a numerical difference as a size recommendation or a prediction of comfort.

Decide what needs remeasurement

If the form rejects the comparison, find a source diagram or ask how the candidate was measured. A different method cannot be repaired by adding an arbitrary allowance. Remeasure your reference with the confirmed method if it is appropriate for its construction.

When the difference range includes zero, the bounds you entered allow the candidate to be smaller, equal or larger on that dimension. This does not prove that the garments are identical. It means that the chosen bounds do not establish a direction of difference.

  • Stop if the candidate measurement is a body size range rather than a garment dimension.
  • Request a measurement explanation when a sleeve or body-length starting point is missing.

Keep the comparison attached to one candidate

A reusable note states the dimension, method, original values, converted difference and unresolved questions. That is more useful than saving a size label on its own.
